The NPS is committed to ensuring equal career opportunities for women and minorities.

Bruce Babbitt, former Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior announced that the Park Service has set a goal to increase hiring of diversity candidates to match population demographics of the United States. According to Robert Arnberger, retired former Superintendent of the Grand Canyon National Park "Our Federal employees should mirror the face of America. It is most important that our National Parks  mirror the heritage and the history of this country." The NAU Park Ranger Training Program will help prepare women and minority students for the outstanding career opportunities which exist with federal and state land management agencies.
