Good Ideas For Teachers

1990/91 GOOD IDEAS GRANTS FOR TEACHERS

UP TO $1,000 AVAILABLE TO TEACHERS WITH GOOD IDEAS

The Washington Water Power Company is committed to helping improve the quality of K-12 education in our communities. WWP believes that by directly supporting the good ideas of teachers, students will benefit from enhanced learning opportunities. This program will implement "good ideas" that would not have been possible because of time or resource constraints.

All eastern Washington and northern Idaho elementary and secondary teachers (public or private) whose school or students receive WWP electric or natural gas service are invited to apply.

GRANT GUIDELINES

The most important guideline for a Good Ideas Grant is that tile teacher demonstrate how this grant is Innovative and will Improve classroom Instruction,

Teachers can apply in the following manner:
bulletIndividual teachers can apply for up to $600
bulletTeacher teams can apply for up to $1 000. Teams may include a counselor and/or administrator

Team grants are strongly encouraged and will be given special consideration during the selection process.

Funding may be requested for the following:
bulletOutside experts or tutors
bulletMaterials, including software
bulletSubstitute time or tuition to engage in a professional development opportunity
bulletEquipment
bulletTransportation
bulletOther expenses that the applicant(s) consider necessary

Teachers are encouraged to list any Matching funds or resources which can be used to enhance the grant. We also encourage proposals that include a plan for sharing your "good idea" with other educators.

Applicants must also show that Implementation of grants will begin by Spring, 1991.

Additional applications are available at most school principal, district superintendent and WWP offices, including the WWP Community Affairs office in Spokane.

Deadline for Submitting Applications: November 30, 1998 at 4:00 P.M. in the WWP Spokane Community Affairs Office.

GOOD IDEAS GRANT WRITING TIPS

- Read and follow the grant guidelines, directions and criteria for selection carefully

- Clearly describe your innovative idea and what you hope your students will achieve

- Avoid jargon when describing proposed activities and make sure they relate to your idea

- Be sure the budget supports your idea and activities

- Review the list of 1990 grant awards. It not enclosed with this application, they are available at most schools and WWP offices

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

Selection of grant recipients will be conducted by a panel of teachers, school administrators, and WWP employees. This grant review panel will judge each proposal on the following criteria:

- Clearly defined goals, objectives, and budget

- Uniqueness and innovation

- Ability to be carried out as described

- Likely effect on students' classroom experiences

- Support of district guidelines

- Demonstration of one or more teachers' talents

- Number of students who will be involved and/or benefit

GRANT AWARDS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AND APPLICANTS NOTIFIED BY JANUARY 18, 1991
