While children often play on a standard-size field, many soccer organizations operate programs that feature short-sided games - a type of play emphasizing fairness, fun, and positive character building. Short-sided games; require different field dimensions and markings. Here are three field designs -suggested by American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), organized by age:

ORIENTATION: Preferred orientation is for the long axis to be north-south.
SURFACE AND DRAINAGE:
To provide better drainage, build a crown into the field. Designs should provide grades of no more than 6"-8" from the center of field to the sidelines.
