Community recreation centers reflect the fundamental mission of the park and recreation profession. The traditional "activity center" concept and design is expanding to meet the growing needs of the community. The "neighborhood center" will continue to offer facilities and spaces for recreational activities but it will also include space to support health and legal counseling, social services, mediation and conflict resolution services, home health care, mental health outreach services, day care, senior care, children's museums, community gardens and libraries. These neighborhood centers will reflect the emerging role of the parks and recreation profession as a focal point for community services. Spaces for these new services should be integrated into the recreational facility design. This information is required to complete your site evaluations.
