The real success of a camp depends upon the quality of the counselors.

Appreciation for people
– tolerance, patience, good humor, accepting differences.

Empathy – the ability
to put yourself in the place of others and actually sense how they feel.

Setting a good example
– habits, conduct, etc.
·
Youthful, yet Mature –
have mature judgment, yet retain a youthfulness of spirit and interest.

Love the Outdoors
·
Camping Skills –
outdoor knowledge and skills that can contribute to the camp program or
willingness to acquire them.
· Persistence – finding self-satisfaction in doing a good job and serving others without expecting personal gain.

GETTING A JOB
Resident camps are a
major employer of young people between the ages of 18 through 22.
·
Letter of Application –
typed, spelling/grammar checked, specific, clear, concise, interesting,
courteous and convincing. Tell why
you are attracted to position/camp; describe those qualities you have that would
make a contribution.
·
The Interview – be
on time!, neat appearance, be polite, honest, confident, enthusiastic,
respectful, no bragging, conduct yourself in a businesslike manner.
Be prepared to ask questions also.
·
Accepting a Position –
a signed contract is your word of honor. Be sure before accepting that it is your first choice.
