Outdoor Education Emphasis

The Outdoor leadership emphasis trains students to work as leaders, guides and educators in outdoor environments. The emphasis is associated with the Wilderness Education Association and includes the option of a two semester course sequence leading to outdoor leadership certification at the national level. The emphasis focuses on experiential learning and includes field-based activities to develop technical and interpersonal skills. Students who select this emphasis find employment with organizations such as National Outdoor Leadership School, Outward Bound, public and private guiding services, outdoor and environmental education centers, camps, community and university outdoor programs.
