Playgrounds continue to be a primary component in most park and recreation facilities. A safe play environment promotes physical, cognitive and social development. Developmental needs vary with the age of the child. It is estimated that over 180,000 children are injured on public playgrounds every year. The following information focuses on the common playground equipment types and the dangers associated with each.
