1.  Sedona Fire District

The Sedona Fire District Hiary Rescue is a refurbished fire engine that was partially funded through grants awarded by homeland security.

3.  Grand Marshal Tom O’Halleran

I’d like to introduce the 2009 Sedona St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal, Sedona’s very own Tom O’Halleran.  Tom was born and raised in Chicago before moving to our fine city more than fourteen years ago.  Tom has represented our community as a State Representative for 6 years and then another 2 years as Arizona Senator.  Tom may be retired, but he is busy working on the Arizona State Water Advisory Group and the Western States Water Council.  Tom is accompanied by his lovely wife of 39 years, Pat.  Let’s all give Tom and Pan an Irish “We Lads and Lasses” warm welcome.

4.  Camp Verde Cavalry

The Camp Verde Cavalry’s well known riding group was organized in 1958 and is still going strong.  They have enjoyed being the color guard for the Sedona Parade for many years.  This Cavalry unit continues to thrill crowds wherever they ride.  This year’s Colonel is Joe Butner.

5.  Southwest Sky & Pipe Band

This is the first public appearance of the Southwest Sky & Pipe Band.  This band, formerly known as The Irish Pipes of Sedona, is comprised of members from Prescott, Camp Verde, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Williams.  The band is always looking for new members and has teachers available for either pipes or drums.  Contact a band member for additional information.

6.  Sedona Mayor Rob Adams

Mayor Rob Adams and his wife Christine are riding in an all-electric car provided by Bike and Bean and the Electric Toy Store in the Hillside shopping center.  The car exemplifies Mayor Adams’ commitment to “going green” in Sedona.  Mayor Adams was elected in June of 2008 and has advocated a vision of making Sedona a model city of sustainability through water conservation, green building, and the development of alternative energy and transit.

7.  Clarkdale Vice Mayor Jerry Wiley

8.  Cottonwood Mayor Diane Joens

 Diane Joens is mayor of Cottonwood, and was elected in March of 2007.  Preservation of the Verde River is one of Mayor Joens’ primary interests.  She is highly supportive of businesses, large and small, and believes the river is among the Verde’s most attractive and substantial resources for the prosperity of our businesses and community.  Mayor Joens is also one of the founders of Stewards of Public Lands, a group that organizes volunteers, government agencies and businesses to clean up and maintain the Verde Valley’s beautiful public lands.

U.S. Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick represents Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.  Congresswoman Kirkpatrick was born and raised in this district.  In Congress she is committed to creating jobs, helping our small businesses prosper, and improving our education system.

11.  Michael Stevenson, PhD

Dr. Michael Stevenson is the Dean for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Northern Arizona University.  The Parks and Recreation Management Program is in this college.

12.  Sedona Main Street Program

The Sedona Main Street Program Board of Directors is proud to be among the sponsors of this St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival.  Many of the smiling faces and hard-working individuals you see amid the crowd today are members of the program’s board.  The day’s activities are the culmination of a year of planning, coordinating, wrangling, begging, heavy lifting, and fun.  We’re proud of our vibrant pedestrian-friendly district and all the members and stakeholders that continue to work toward the creation of a unique experience for all to enjoy.

13.  Christ Center Wesleyan Church

Christ Center Wesleyan Church is excited about participating in Sedona’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year and in celebrating our joyous tradition! Like St. Patrick in his day in Ireland, Christ Center seeks to serve the needs of Sedona spiritually and educationally.  Music is also an important part of what Christ Center does in their worship services and so these church guys are happy to be making some joyful sounds to add to the fun.

14.  Arizona Rangers

The Arizona Rangers were organized in 1901 to protect the Arizona territory from outlaws and rustlers so that the territory could apply for statehood.  Today they are called upon as unpaid volunteers to assist law enforcement upon their request and to support youth organizations and the community.  They also engage in activities which tend to keep alive the traditions of the Old West.

15.  Oak Creek Brewing Co.

Sedona’s one and only microbrewery producing quality handcrafted ales and lagers since 1995.  Come visit the brewery off Coffee Pot Drive for the post parade party.  Great beer bar and beer garden!

16.  Arizona Cardinals

17.  Sedona Car Club

The Sedona Car Club, sponsor of the annual Sedona Car Show, is open to anyone interested in cars.  You don’t need to have an antique or sports car to be a member.  Their monthly meeting is the second Tuesday of the month at the Sedona Library at 7 PM.  The Sedona Car Club was founded in 1982.

18.  Jammin’ Jumpers Cottonwood Elementary School

The award-winning Jammin’ Jumpers is a jump rope team from Cottonwood Elementary School.  The team consists of 30 members, both boys and girls from grades 3rd through 5th.  This is their 11th year of jumping; their coach, Nancy Erickson, has been with them from the beginning.  They are a performance team and will perform throughout the Verde Valley.  The team members are committed to lead a healthy active lifestyle and promoting athletic excellence.

19.  Yavapai Sheriff’s Office

Let’s welcome the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Do-Right.  Deputy Do-Right is the mascot for Sheriff Waugh’s “Right by Kids” Child Safety Program.  Deputy Do-Right travels all over Yavapai County teaching kids how to stay safe, healthy, and drug-free.  Thank you.

20.  City of Sedona Police Dept.

The Sedona Police Mounted Unit is used for special events and crowd control, among other uses.  The unit was established in 2002.  Officer Rena Dearden and T-Bone and Officer Jim Pott and Nugget are accompanied by some of our outstanding youth, members of the Sedona Police Explorer Post 7100.

Next up are your Sedona Girl Scouts.  Sedona Girl Scouts are over 40 girls strong.  Girl Scouts are about courage, confidence, and character.  We earn badges, go camping, do community service, and of course sell cookies.  Girl Scouts are where girls grow strong!!

23.  Pink Jeep Tours

Pink Jeep Tours, the original jeep tour company in the country, has been providing the most talked about off-road adventures in the Southwest for almost 50 years! Riding in the pink jeeps today are the Girl Scouts’ youngest members – The Daisy Girls’ Troop, who are 5 and 6 years old!!

24.  Sedona Red Rockin’ Grannies

The Grannies are small but mighty.  A few of them have been in the parade since 1989, and wouldn’t miss it for the world.  So as long as there is a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, expect to see the Grannies!

25.  Sedona Heritage Museum

Here’s the 1942 fire engine of Sedona Heritage Museum, operated by Sedona Historical Society.  The museum is open every day, and last year had 11,000 visitors.  The Sedona Heritage Museum is proud to present this Model T Ford in celebration of their re-printing of a great book called “Traveling by Tin Lizzie”.  This true story of a Sedona pioneer family who took an 8-month road trip in 1924 looking for work and adventure was written by Sedona Historical Society founder, Laura Purtymun McBride.  “Traveling by Tin Lizzie” is a Grapes of Wrath-like story with a happy ending! Also – did you know that this is the 100th anniversary of the Model T?!

26.  Boys and Girls Club of Northern Arizona

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona are a second home to hundreds of kids in the Verde Valley each year.  For 14 years, the Clubs here have provided critical youth development programs through their Sedona and Cottonwood branches and the Sedona Teen Center.  With the support of community partners, the Clubs give kids a safe, positive place to go during the time of day they are most likely to be left alone and getting into trouble.  Joining us today are some of the kids from the Sedona Club.  For more information about the Club, please call 928-282-0122 or visit www.apositiveplace.org.

The Sedona Cub Scouts serve boys from 1st grade – 5th grade.  They are 30 boys strong this year and always have room for more.  This is the 99th year of scouting thanks to Lord Boden-Powell who started the first troop in 1910.  Their motto is “Do Your Best!!”

29.  Canyon Moon Theatre

Canyon Moon Theatre presents plays, lectures, movies, and music concerts all year round.  Today Canyon Moon is proud to present the Pure Dead Brilliant Band who will be performing today at Canyon Moon from 2 – 4 PM, so come on over!

30.  Ronald McDonald

Here comes Ronald McDonald! Ronald travels the world as goodwill ambassador for McDonald’s Restaurants and Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charities, but today he is here to help us celebrate our 39th Annual Sedona St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Ronald says top o’ the mornin’ to all of you.  Ronald’s entry today was arranged by Greg Cook, owner/operator of the McDonald’s Restaurant in the Sedona area.  After the parade Ronald will visit with all of his friends at the McDonald’s in Sedona.  Let’s give Ronald McDonald a warm Sedona welcome.  I’m lovin’ it!

31.  Sedona Balloons and Party Creations

Sedona Balloons and Party Creations is a new balloon bouquet and party-planning business bringing the party to you.

32.  City of Sedona Youth Task Force

The City of Sedona Youth Task Force works with students to empower youth to make recommendations to the City of Sedona and build a bridge between Sedona youth and the City on youth-related issues.

33.  Larson Newspapers

Here comes Sedona’s only family-owned, award-winning newspaper, the Sedona Red Rock News, accompanied by its award-winning news staff, people who cut through the baloney every day to bring the real news.

34.  Electric Toy Store

Eco Rides and Rentals, located in the Hillside shops on Hwy 179, consist of two fun stores, The Electric Toy Store and the Bike and Bean! The Electric Toy Store is in the business of selling and renting all electric vehicles of various descriptions.  Fun toys for both kids and adults! REV conversion company, also affiliated with the Electric Toy Store, converts internal combustion engine street vehicles to electric propulsion for use by fleet operators and individual consumers.  They have an all-electric 4 wheel drive Jeep Wrangler and a converted 1925 Model T in the parade today.  We don’t need no stinking gas!

The June 5th thru 13th Festival of Native American Culture will feature Native American films, arts, music, and dance.  The parade vehicle carries the 2009 Yavapai-Apache Royalty.  The Yavapai-Apache Nation thrives on a reservation that spans over 1,800 acres in the four communities of Camp Verde, Middle Verde, Clarkdale, and Rimrock.  The Archaeological Society works to preserve the cultural heritage sites throughout the Sedona – Verde Valley area.

The Sedona Community Food Bank has operated autonomously for over 26 years.  They are an approved 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.  They receive no direct federal, state, or city funds, and are completely dependent upon donations from individuals, churches, organizations, and local businesses.  During 2008 the food bank provided over 128,000 lbs. of food to needy families!!!

Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society.  During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps.  We celebrate survivors.  Remember those that have been lost and raise money to fight back against cancer.

The Rotary Club of Sedona and the Red Rocks Rotary Club are dedicated to community service activities to make a better world, locally and internationally.  As part of Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization with 1.2 million members, Sedona’s Rotary Club members devote their time and talent to further the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.  Rotary’s community service projects include Rotary International’s Polio eradication project, Youth Student Exchanges, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Red Rock High School Student scholarships and many other volunteer service projects in Sedona.

52.  Desert Irish Wolfhound Assoc.

The Irish wolfhound is an ancient breed of the greyhound family, dating back to the 17th century.  He was used to hunt wolves and elk and to accompany Irish nobles to war.  The Desert Irish Wolfhound Association is a statewide club of Irish wolfhound enthusiasts committed to improving the health and welfare of Irish wolfhounds.  Members and their dogs participate in rescue and educational events, festivals and parades, and other community events in order to foster an interest in and to increase knowledge about this wonderful ancient breed!

53.  Thespian Club

Sedona Red Rock High School Thespians are presenting Up the Down Staircase, a timeless comedy about the trials and tribulations of high school life.  Performances will be March 26, 27, and 28 at 7 PM and March 29 at 2 PM.

54.  Church of the Red Rocks (Read Slowly)

The Garbage Can Band is a group of 6 – 8th graders from Big Park Community School.  These students have been playing anywhere from a year to 3 years.  They have performed al around the state and last year at Disneyland.  The Garbage Can Band would like to thank the community for their support.

Ye Olde UFO Store was created with the goal of provoking serious thought while also exploring the whimsical and humorous side of UFO history.  It is located in Sedona across from Tlaquepaque.  The store opened Thanksgiving of 2008 and a tally board asks the question, “Do You Believe?” So far the yes outnumbers the no nearly five to one.  “Do you believe in UFOs?” Museum displays cover topics such as ancient alien astronauts, Area 51, famous people who believe, Arizona sightings, famous abductions, the Roswell crash, photographs, and much more.  Come and explore the possibilities at Ye Olde UFO Store and cast your vote.
