St. Patrick's Day Parade Bios 2001

1) Sedona Fire District
The Sedona Fire District arrives promptly on the scene when called. They do their best to protect and serve the Sedona Community.

2) Sedona Trolley
Once again they have donated a couple trolleys for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This one ran most of the parade participants up to the starting area earlier this morning. It is always fun to see the trolleys around town.

4) Camp Verde Cavalry
One of the best known riding groups in Arizona. The Camp Verde Cavalry was organized in 1958 and is still going strong. This group has ridden in the Sedona St. Patrick’s Day Parade for many years. They have thrilled crowds throughout the state of Arizona.
 
5) Grand Marshall Robert Shields
Robert Shields is a prominent businessman here in Sedona. He just recently opened a new restaurant. Let’s give a big round of applause for our St.
Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshall!!

6) Al Hermann
Al Hermann came to Sedona in 1982, and since his arrival he has been very involved not only in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade but also in the Sedona Community. He has been involved with the parade since 1983 in various capacities such as Treasurer and Chairman of the Queen of the Green. Al Chaired the St. Patrick’s Day Parade from 1985-1992. Other Organization that Al has and is involved with are Co. Chairman with Police Chief Bob Irish for the COPS. Boys and Girls Club of Sedona. Foundation Board for the Sedona Medical Center Treasurer of LEAD (Let’s Educate About Drugs) Jazz on the Rocks And he has supported philanthropically other non-profit organizations throughout Sedona
 
7) Sedona City Council
Our Sedona City Council has been in place for 13years, since the City was incorporated. The current council consists of :

Along with council members Tom Bashaw, Allen Bradley, Steve Nanmanson, George Tice and Paul Tutnick

8) Matt Ryan (District 3, Coconino County Board of Supervisor) and Liz Archuleta (District 2, Coconino County Board of Supervisor) and Bonny Kraske (Coconino County Treasurer)
 
9) Bob Larson and Ron Williams
Bob Larson is the publisher of the Sedona Red Rock News and has lived in Sedona since 1963. He is a graduate of NAU. He also owns the Cottonwood Journal Extra and the Camp Verde Journal. Bob has supported community events throughout Sedona all his life and was proud to serve as a past parade co-chairman in 1994 and 1995.
Riding with Bob in this year’s parade is Ron Williams. Ron is another long-time resident of Sedona and he is currently a financial planner for hotel
properties throughout the United States and Mexico. Ron was the chairman of the parade way back in 1975 and also in 1976. Please give them a standing ovation for their years of service in the community.

11) Dignitary Jack Seeley
Jack Seeley and his wife Judy moved to Sedona in the spring of 1978. After getting settled into their new home, Jack and Judy started a flying school, Air Taxi/Charter and Commuter airline company. About the same time Jack joined a new Kiwanis Club in Sedona. The Club became involved in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. He has held various volunteer positions with the parade until 1984. Jack was Co-chair of the parade with Don Williams in 1984. From 1984 until 1995 Jack was the parade security coordinator, coordinating the various law enforcement agencies working the parade. Jack continues to be involved in the community volunteering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Arizona.
 
12) Arizona Highlanders Pipe Band
The Arizona Highlanders are based in Flagstaff and are affiliated with the Northern Arizona Irish Foundation along with the Northern Arizona Celtic
Heritage Society. They have been promoting  appreciation of Celtic Music and culture for 5 years.
 
13) Arizona Channel
The Arizona Channel is 2 years young, serving Sedona and Northern Arizona. This television station offers news, information, and entertainment.
 
14) Sedona Historical Society
The Historical Society is sporting a 1942 fire truck. This program operates the Sedona Heritage museum and also manages and cares for the collection of documents and artifacts that tell the story of early life in the Sedona area.
 
15) Quackie
Quackie is ready to race in Sedona on September 16th. The second annual “Great Northern Arizona Rubber Duck Race” will be held creek side at Los Abrigados Resort and Spa. Quackie will be back with a chance to win a million dollars and to win this new 2001 Geo Tracker (aka Quacker Tracker). Don’t go quackers, duck adoption papers will be available soon. Look for the “MOMMA” duck at Cornerstone Galleries just up the parade route. If you’d like to volunteer and/or be involved as a sponsor, she’ll take you under her “wing” and you can sign up there.

16) Sedona Main Street Program
Feel lucky!! Buy a chance on a $1000 dollar jack pot of gold sponsored by Joe Wilcox stores. Buy your tickets right now from passing sales people who are waving right now. Wave People!!! Or, you can purchase tickets from local businesses. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. Winner need not be present but there is plenty to win today. The grand prize of $1000 to be drawn  at the Wilcox Stores’ fifth annual Sedona Home and Business Show April 28th.
 
17) Sedona Bashas’
Bashas’ has been a growing and thriving grocery retail chain since 1932. One of Arizona’s oldest companies, now with over 100 stores in the Bashas’ family of stores. 18) The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office ( they have multiple vehicle entrees) Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is proud to present Sheriff’s Office
Volunteers. There is currently a surplus of 1000 persons participating in our Volunteer In Protection, Jeep Posse, Back Country Team, and Search & Rescue (just to name a few).
Next vehicle:
Next up we have the Sheriff’s Office DARE vehicle, a 1997 Ford Mustang Followed by the GREAT vehicle, a 1999 Chevy Camero. Both are fully functional emergency equipped vehicles and are driven by volunteers in the Volunteers in Protection Program (VIP’s). In 1995, Sheriff “Buck” Buchanan, an advocate of community oriented policing, started the Volunteers In Protection program. VIP’s provide non-confrontational services that allow regular deputies to spend more time on matters such as traffic enforcement and criminal investigations. VIP’s also provide an increased patrol presence in rural communities. VIP’s have become the eyes and ears for the public and deputies of the Sheriff’s Office.
Next vehicle:
The Yavapai County also has a nearly completed 1993 Yavapai Sheriff’s Mobile Command Post which is driven by volunteer Mel Oliverson.
Mel, with the assistance of other volunteers from Yavapai County, has been involved with the remodeling  and reconstruction of this 28ft Fleetwood “Bounder” Motor Home, which will be used throughout Yavapai County by local law enforcement and fire department agencies. This motor home was actually taken in a Drug Seizure and is worth over $60,000.00 This mobile command post is fully equipped for ALL emergencies and is prepared to rapidly respond & transport personnel to any disaster or critical incident.
Next vehicle:
Volunteers from the Verde Valley Search and Rescue Unit are also present today. The Sheriff’s Office has 14 individual volunteer units stationed from Seligman to Black Canyon City and response from all areas can be involved in any one search if called upon. There is a great deal of pride involved in these volunteers and considering they provide most of their own equipment and supplies, their dedication is without question.
 
19) Sedona Charter School
Sedona Charter School’s mission is to provide children with a foundation for achieving excellence as students and citizens. This Montessori-based school is enriched by integrated Thematic Instruction as well as by parental and community involvement.

20) Sedona Red Rockin’ Grannies
 This organization was formed in 1989 under sponsorship of Adult Community Center of Sedona. They are a unique in that the nimble-stepping grannies must be either grandmothers or age 50. This range goes up to 83 years of age.
 
21) Sedona Police Department
Sedona Police DARE car. The vehicle is a 1981 Corvette with DARE logos. This vehicle is used in schools as a part of our drug resistance program for youth.
 
22) Arizona National Stock Show
AZ National Stock Show Queen “Jessie Jones” from Cottonwood, AZ is 17 years old and is a senior at Mingus Union High School.
 
23) Northern Arizona Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club of Sedona began operating for youth on Nov. 18, 1995. They currently have approximately 500 members enrolled ranging in ages from 6 to 18. The Northern Arizona Boys and Girls opened its first branch in Cottonwood, AZ in Jan. of 1998. The Boys and Girls club of Sedona is a youth development agency that is dedicated to providing youth in the Sedona area with a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. The Club is committed to high quality programs that will help boys and girls develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders.
 
24) The Crooked Chair
The Crooked Chair pf Sedona specializes in creative custom built “Rustic Home Furnishings” made to order.
 
25) Sedona Motorcycles
Sedona Motorcycles was established in 1994. It provides Harley Davidson service and routine maintenance of most foreign makes. They sell parts,
accessories, and merchandise along with their “Award winning Harley Rentals”.
 
26) Sedona Airport Supporters
Sedona Airport Supporters formed in 1998 to remind pilots to be good neighbors and fly higher and quieter.
 
27) Joe’s Uptown Pizza
Brand new pizzeria located in uptown. Featuring breakfast and traditional pizza by the slice.
 
28) The “Cotton Clickin’ Kickers”
The “Cotton Clickin’ Kickers” is a non-profit performance group that is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation of Cottonwood. Group members include men and women from the age of 13 and up. Members must have a strong desire to sing, dance, act and entertain. Janette Davis, a former 7 year resident of Sedona, is the director and choreographer.
 
29) Sedona Verde Valley Association of Realtors
With their float and their affiliates, they want to remind you that real-estate can be real ”BEAR” without the service of a professional Realtor.

30) Sedona Reality
Nearly 30 years in the business and combined experience of over 120 years. The broker, Jean Kielblock( pronounced Keelblock) riding in a 2001 PT Cruiser.
 
31) Keep Sedona Beautiful
This program has been described as “Sedona’s premier conservation/preservation organization and “Sedona’s most successful group of volunteers”. KSB’s more than 150 proud volunteer Litter Lifters constantly patrol almost 60 miles of our streets and roads “Keeping Sedona Beautiful“. Do your part by not littering in Sedona, discouraging others from littering and by supporting KSB as a member.
 
32) Sedona Car Club
Founded in 1982, The Sedona car club presently has a membership of over 60 families. The purpose of the club is to further the use and enjoyment of antique, classic and special-interest automobiles. (cars in chronological order)

33) J.W. Agnegar
J.W. Agnegar bought a home three months ago and is driving his 1934 Ford Replica.
 
34) Wells Fargo Stage Coach
The Wells Fargo Bank is represented by their nationally renowned horse drawn stage coach. This coach travels around the country and we are honored to have it make another historical trek down Jordan Road.
 
35) Knights of Columbus Council 10324
The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic in the world, with over one and one half million members. The Knights are the largest single most
contributor to the Special Olympics.
 
36) Sedona Stings
Sedona Strings music studio consists of violin, viola and cello students from ages 4 to 18. Eve Schenk teaches these students and is also the artistic
director of the Sedona Youth Orchestra. Her young violinists will be playing Irish Jigs in the parade.
 
37) Sedona Elks Lodge
The Elks are a Fraternal Organization dedicated to serving our community
 
38) Mingus High Special Needs
This is the Mingus Union High School Special Needs Class. They built this wonderful float for their P.E. class credit.
 
39) Christ Center Wesleyan Church
Christ Center Wesleyan Church has been in existence since 1974 and a light for Christ in the community of Sedona and the Verde Valley. They celebrate the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ and the diversity HE brings to life and the Life HE brings through His death and glorious resurrection.
 
40) Flagstaff Pine Country Pro-Rodeo
Howdy Irish and Rodeo fans!! The Flagstaff Pine Country Pro Rodeo 2001 Queen, Kiva James and the 2001 Teen Queen, Rhiannan Cometh are proud to be participating in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and help celebrate our Irish and Western heritage as they gallop among the emerald green shamrocks. Kiva is a 17 year old Senior at Coconino High School. She is president of the 4-H Cinder Hillbillies and enjoys showing her horse Lee in AQHA shows. Rhiannan is a 15 year old Freshman at Prescott High School. She is secretary in the Prescott Roughrider 4-H club where she enjoys showing and team penning with her quarter horse Buzzie. Both young ladies have won numerous equestrian awards. Kiva and Rhiannan invite all of you to the Flagstaff Pine Country Pro-Rodeo this coming June 15th through the 17th as they celebrate their 20th anniversary. And where rodeo doesn’t get any higher!! May the luck of the Irish be with you all today.
 
41) Oak Creek Brewing Company
Sedona’s one and only microbrewery, producing quality handcrafted ales and lagens since 1995. Come visit the brewery off Coffeepot Drive. Great beer bar and beer garden.
 
42) Flagstaff Kennel Club
The Flagstaff Kennel Club k-9 drill team was organized in the fall of 1992. Their first parade was the Sedona St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1993. Since that time they have marched in parades throughout the state, often placing first in their category. The group is unique in several ways; rather than simply walking the parades, the dogs and the people perform marching routines. The group is dedicated to educational programs in the schools, for civic groups and at fairs. Most of the members and their dogs are certified by the Delta Society at Pet Partner. In this capacity, they go into nursing homes, day care centers, and Flagstaff Medical Center. There is no charge for their services. They recenty won one of three AKC Community Achievement Awards for the year 2000.
 
43) Pink Jeep Tours
Tours jeeps with guests as passengers. Original jeep tour company in the U.S. Started in Sedona in 1958.
 
44) The Sunshine Kids
This musical organization was started just over a year ago to help young people gain personal confidence and develop their performance skills. Over 45 youngsters from all over our community have participated in performances. No special talent or experience is required to join, only a cheerful attitude and a desires to have fun and learn. Notice the authentic Irish-American “Erin Go Bragh” flag on the float. It, and the special decorations arranged by parents of the Sunshine Kids, provide a perfect backdrop for the Irish songs they are performing today. Please help us show a warm appreciation for the Sunshine Kids.

47) God’s Clod Squad
Newly formed community clown ministry which is sponsored by the Church of the Red Rocks. Their purpose is “To create clowns who delight the heart and heal the spirit through humor.”
 
48) Wings for Greyhounds & Greyhound Rescue of the Red Rocks
Since 1996, Wings for Greyhounds has been providing airborne rescue service to retired racing greyhounds from the Arizona racetracks. This unique project has been featured in numerous TV and newspaper stories including Animal Planet, McCall’s Magazine  and our own Red Rock News. Greyhound Rescue of the Red Rocks is Sedona’s local adoption group. The bloodlines of most racing greyhounds originated in Ireland.
 
49) Toastmasters of Sedona
Toastmasters of Sedona is part of Toastmasters International, a sixty year old organization dedicated to the improvement of a person’s public speaking and leadership skills. Toastmasters International has several thousand individual clubs world wide. Toastmasters of Sedona meets every Wednesday morning at 7am in the Adult Community Center.
  The mission of the Toastmasters of Sedona is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has an opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
 
50) Global Change Music
Gabriel of Sedona’s Bright & Morning Star Choir, a 40-voice and 16-piece orchestra, sing and play his original CosmoWorship compositions. All choir and orchestra members have devoted their lives to bring about a spiritual unification of all people through the healing qualities of sound. Their motive is to be of service to humankind and help bring about global change by presenting the unique lyrics and melodies of Gabriel of Sedona’s global change music to the world. Global Change Music is a nonprofit record label that challenges all musicians worldwide to write lyrics and melodies that ascend the soul, raise planetary consciousness, and unite humanity in one global family rhythm.
 
51) Something to Talk About
The theme is from the story “The End of the Rainbow” by Barbie McCarthy. As the story goes, King Ferguson’s people were poor and therefore, he needed his daughter, Eileeen to marry well. So, he proclaimed that any man that brought him the gold from the end of the rainbow would wed his daughter. That man was Liam. So leading the group is Liam and Princess Eileen with their pot of gold followed by leprechauns wishing them well.
 
52) Sedona Christian School
The school has been in existence and a part of the community for over 12 years. Their float incorporates this years theme and is child centered and
musically accompanied.
 
53) Ronald McDonald
He travels the world as a Goodwill Ambassador for McDonald’s Restaurant and Ronald McDonald House Children Charities. Today, he is here helping us celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Sedona. After the parade, Ronald will be visiting his friends at the Sedona McDonalds. Erin Go Bragh.
 
54) Child Help USA
Child Help USA exists to meet the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of the abused and neglected children by focusing their efforts
and resources in the areas of treatment prevention and research.
 
55) KAFF and KMGN Radio
92.9 KAFF country has been serving Northern Arizona for 38 years with today’s best country music and 93.9 the Mountain is Northern Arizona’s home of classic rock and roll.
 
56) Arizona Flywheelers
The purpose of this club is to promote, preserve, and maintain early examples of gas engines, tractors, and miscellaneous related farm and mining equipment of ancient age and historical value, as well as models, devices, toys, or other unusual equipment, and to serve as an accurate and technical source of information concerning such items for the benefit of the members and the general public.
 
57) Animal Aid Network
Animal Aid Network is an all volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization. It is supported by the Four Paws Emporium in Old Town
Cottonwood. The AAN provides residents of the Verde Valley with a low cost spay/neuter incentive program.
 
58) Roads to Open Doors
Believe that through educating the community, they can raise awareness to the public and money to fund projects to assist Native American elders who live in a traditional way care taking land with no running water and no electricity. Their first project  started in the fall of 2000 with a goal to raise money towards a purchase of a tractor for those on the land to help maintain dirt roads that are very neglected.
 
59) Blazing Saddle Riders 4-H Club
Horse Project 4H group from Flagstaff has 2 leaders and 27 members ages 9-18. They ride English, western, and Gymkhana events. The 4H motto is “Making the Best Better”. The 4H emblem is a 4-leaf clover with the colors green and white. The 4 H’s sand for devoting their head, heart, hands and health for the benefit of the community.
 
60) Sedona 4-Wheel Drive Center

61) Verde Valley Excel Communications Team

62) NAU Parks and Recreation
They are a service club of the Parks and Recreation Management Program at Northern Arizona University. The members of this club put on recreation events throughout the year.
 
63) Ganado Middle and High School Marching Band
The Ganado Middle School and High School marching band is from the Navajo Nation in Ganado, AZ. The band is under the direction of John Sexton and Michael Glynn.
 
64) US Army
These troops represent the 313th military police detachment and the 368th military intelligence battalion. Among the troops are locals, specialist
Walter and specialist DiGiovanni.
 
65) Red Rock Recycling Rubbish
 And a final big round of applause for Red Rock Recycling. Once again , they are helping us to keep Sedona litter free. They donated all of our trash receptacles today and have been a great help in keeping the parade clean.
