
1999 St. Patrick's Day Parade Biography List
1. Sedona Fire District
This is one of Sedonas two brand new fire engines, manufactured by a company called E-one. Because of safety concerns, firefighters no longer ride on the back of fire engines, and this new engine seats five people. The Sedona Fire District covers an area of 120 square miles, with some 100 volunteers and 50 career members. Call them to find out how you can become a volunteer.
2. Camp Verde Cavalry
The Camp Verde Cavalry was formed to help preserve the heritage of the fort at Camp Verde. This Group with their colorful uniforms and spirited horses is one of the best known and most recognized riding groups in Arizona. They have been riding in the Sedona parade for many years. This years colonel is Joe Butner.
Al Hermann came to Sedona in 1982, and since his arrival he has been very involved not only in the St. Patricks Day Parade but also in the Sedona Community. He has been involved with the parade since 1983 in various capacities such as Treasurer and Chairman of the Queen of the Green. Al Chaired the St. Patricks Day Parade from 1985-1992. Other Organization that Al has and is involved with are
Co. Chairman with Police Chief Bob Irish for the COPS.

6. Sedona Girl Scout Neighborhood
Sedona Girl Scouts have been in Sedona over 15 years. They have been in every parade since they can remember. In the past they have won the Youth Group awards. Their entry this year is girls ages 7 to 17 Holding Helium Balloons. They are active in the community helping in many aspects, i.e. Soup kitchen, planting, recycling, and dog walks etc.

8. Cliff Castle Casino (Balloon)
Cliff Castle Casino has entered a leprechaun balloon this year. Cliff Castle Casino has been providing gaming now for 4 years.
9. Bob Williams (Former chairman of the parade, 1984)

11. NADCAR- Northern Arizona Dwarf Car Association
These are 5/8-scaled 1930s to 1948 American made vintage cars. They race on dirt tracks and use motorcycle engines for power. This Association has been in the Verde Valley for six years and race in Showlow, Gallop, New Mexico, Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, and Casa Grande. Look for these cars on display in West Sedona and in the future in the Village of Oak Creek. They have over 30 cars in the group.
12. Arizona Highlanders and Celtic Heritage Society
This group is comprised of 8 to 10 pipers and drummers plus 8 to 12 marchers with flags and Irish or Celtic dress. There are also 2 Irish Wolfhounds. The Arizona Highlanders Consist of Pipers and Drummers who have played together for two Years. Members range for ages 10 to 62.
13. Civil Air Patrol
Verde Valley Composite Squadron 205 Civil Air Patrol is an Auxiliary of United State Air Force Civil Air Patrol and helps with search and rescue.

"Guero" Vicente Martinez is Riding Renegade in a Traditional Charro Style Costume.
16. Key Club/ Sedona Red Rock High School
Key Club is a Community service organization composed of high school students and sponsored by Beth Bell Rock Kiwanis and Sunrise Kiwanis. Projects include fundraisers for Big Brothers and Big Sisters; helping with Kiwanis pancake breakfast; sponsoring dances. Their official charter presentation was on 2/9/99. They are a brand new club!
17. Matterhorn Lodge (precision tourist drill team)
Matterhorn Lodge has supplied accommodations to tourists and locals for 45 years. Our motel salutes the "Return of the Green Tourist" as tourists season begins in Sedona. We are sponsoring the "Precision Tourist Drill Team" These folks have practiced and perfected the "Sedona Tourist" which includes taking photos and extensive use of binoculars and cameras. We ask that you dont throw things or try to hit us with your cars
18. Sedona Car Club
This club was formed in 1982 as a group interested in the antique and classic car hobby. Sedona Car Club is chartered and governed by the antique auto club of America. The club meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month and welcomes new members.
19. Boys and Girls Club of Sedona
The Boys and Girls Club of Sedona began operating for youth on November 18, 1995. We currently have approximately 550 members enrolled, one fifth are teenagers. The Northern Arizona Boys and Girls opened its first branch in Cottonwood, AZ in Jan of 1998. The Boys and Girls club of Sedona is a youth development agency that is dedicated to providing youth in the greater Sedona area with a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. The Club is committed to high quality programs that will help boys and girls develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. "Leaping Leprechauns" The "Leprechauns" of the Boys and Girls Club of Sedona welcome back the St. Patricks Day parade with mischievous grins and fistfuls of candy.
20. Sedona Visual Artists Coalition
The Visual Artists Coalition is a community of professional artists who work in different media (oil, fiber, watercolor, wood, acrylic, glass, metal, film etc.) And who come together to share work and techniques, opportunities and events, and in general have a friendly, inspiring experience. We welcome new artists.
21. Blazing Saddles 4-H Equestrian Club
The Blazing Saddle Riders are a 4-H Equestrian Group consisting of Western and English Riders. There are 26 members, 4 leaders and many volunteers. The 4-H members range in age from 9 years to 16 years old. The group participates in horse activities such as parades, horse shows, seminars, gym kanas and trail riding.
22. Humane Society of Sedona
The Society incorporated in 1966 for the purpose of sheltering homeless animals, to promote spaying/neutering and educating the public on responsible pet care. Animals come in all sorts of colors, well why not green!
23. Sedona Airport Supporters Assoc.
Started in 1998 the Sedona Airport supporters association now has 276 members. These members are in favor of the Sedona Airport. A few members are escorting the "UFO" Float.
24. Sedona Red Rock Jeep Tours, Inc.
1999 is their 15th anniversary. They were incorporated in 1984. They work in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. They offer a variety of tours-scenic, vortex, archaeological, as well as horseback rides.
25.Terra Rosa Charter School
Terra Rosa Charter School is a Waldorf-inspired charter school opened in 1997. It is tuition free and open to any child wishing to attend regardless of their religious, ethnic, economic background, or disability. 4th Grade and under are walking and holding our banner.
26. Flags, Kites and Fun
Flag and Kite Store at the "y" is in its fourth year. The store features a wide selection of decorative flags, kites, windsocks and is the home of the Sedona
City flag.
27. The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society Sedona Unit serves the community with education, information and services through the Sedona Medical Center.

"Keep our Forests Green." Smokey Bear says, " Only you can prevent forest fires." Smokey Bear has been reminding us to help prevent forest fires for years, so well always have a Return O the Green!
30. Soriptimist Intl of Sedona
Local Soroptimist was established in Sedona in 1059. They soroptimists are a Womens service organization. The Candy Wagon is their main moneymaker. All profits are donated back to the community. They estimate that in the last 40 years they have donated between $200-$250,000 dollars.
31. Mingus Union Highs School Special Needs
Special needs classes at Mingus Union H.S. are for students ages 13-21. Their float is flatbed truck decorated in the Return of the Green Theme with pots of gold, shamrocks and costumed leprechauns.

32. Oak Creek Brewing Company
Oak Creek Brewing Company is Sedonas only Microbrewery, manufacturing fine handcrafted ales and lagers right in the heart of Red Rock Country. Their entry is a 1929 Model A Ford Panel Truck.
33. Big Park Community School PTSA
The Big Park School PTSA is sponsoring the jump rope drill team led by Betsy Snider and the Builders Club led by Russ Snider. Our "Return of the Green" Candy Throwers are helping us celebrate the 5th year of big park community school and the PTSA!
34. Safeway Food and Drug (Leprechaun Clan)
Sedonas Safeway food and Drug has been in Sedona for 9 years. They are very active in the community!
35. Toastmasters of Sedona
Toastmasters of Sedona is a fun way to improve your public speaking skills. You are invited to join Toastmasters of Sedona. We meet every Wednesday morning at 7:00 am at the Adult Community Center.
36. Yavapai County Sheriffs Office
The Yavapai County Sheriffs office is proud to present their D.A.R.E. vehicle. It is a 1997, Ford Mustang, fully equipped with emergency capabilities. Volunteer in protection (V.I.P) Joseph Tulley is driving the car. Also, VIP Norm Danoff is a Marked Y.C.S.O. Vehicle.
37. Flagstaff Kennel club K-9 Drill Team
As part of their educational program, the Flagstaff Kennel Club sponsors the K-9 Drill Team to promote obedience trained dogs as good citizens. In addition to putting on educational programs and marching in parades most dogs and their people are certified by the Delta Society for Animal Assisted Activities and Animal Assisted therapy. The Flagstaff Kennel club K-9 Drill team performs marching routines with their dogs. They are dedicated to service and helping people which is why they worked to be certified for AAA and AAT.
38. McDonalds Ronald McDonald (#12329)
Ronald McDonald travels the world as goodwill ambassador for McDonalds Restaurants and Ronald McDonald House Charities. Today he is here in Sedona helping us celebrate Return of the Green at our Sedona St. Patricks Day Parade.

Sedona United Methodist Church was founded in 1980 to bring the good news of Gods love to Sedona. The church has grown steadily since then and moved to its present location in 1992. Our present plans of expansion include a new sanctuary and office complex in 2000-2001
42. Pink Jeep Tours
For more than 40 years, Pink Jeep Tours has provided unrivaled excitement and adventure with guided jeep tours over and around the red rock of Sedona, AZ. We work closely with the Coconino National Forest to maintain the trails. We offer a variety of professionally guided tours that provide information on the area, promote environmental awareness, and give guests a memorable experience.

The Elks are a Fraternal Organization dedicated to serving our community.
44. Celebration of Youth Foundation
We are less than one year old, and are a grass roots organization in the Verde Valley that supports youth to do good.
45. Sedonas Red Rockin Grannies
Formed in August, 1989, under the sponsorship of the adult community center of Sedona, (a non-profit organization) The Grannies have appeared in stage productions, directed and choreographed by Noel Schwartz and have appeared in parades throughout Arizona. They are Unique in that the Nimble-stepping Grannies must be either a grandmother or age 50 and above.
46. Sedona-Oak Creek Canyon Lions Club
The Lions are an International Organization of service-minded persons. One of their goals is to wipe out blindness in the world.
47. Rio Verde Roverettes
The Rio Verde Roverettes, from Cottonwood, is an all womens precision drill team. The Roverettes have been ambassadors for the Verde Valley since their inception in 1974. They have performed in rodeos and parades throughout the state for years. Each year they sponsor an all womens trail ride that has riders from all over the country. They are very involved in many community projects including hi-way litter pick up, adopt-a-family at Christmas, park improvements and many more charitable events. The Roverettes are delighted to be here and wish you all a Happy St. Patricks Day.
48. Adult Community Center of Sedona
"Pickle em up Mobile" The Adult Community Center of Sedona is celebrating their 15th year. They provide meals on wheels, respite care, transportation, community lunch and telecare. Serving hundreds of senior adults proudly.
49. Red Rock Recycles & Rubbish
Sedonas only local trash service and curbside recycling provider. They are owner-operated, based right here in town, and provide a wide range of trash & recycling collection service to both residential and commercial customers.
50. Bright and Morningstar Choir
Gabriel of Sedonas Bright & Morning Star Choir and Orchestra is composed of 40 mixed voices with our nine-piece instrumental orchestra. All choir and orchestra members have devoted their lives to bring about a spiritual unification of all people, through the healing qualities of sound. Our motive is to be of service to humankind and help bring about global change. All of our choir members volunteer their time to bring this unique and wonderful music to all people on this planet. Our organization is nonprofit and runs on a donation basis only. Our program consists of the latest compositions of Gabriel of Sedona, and sounds that bring you back to the lands of Avalon, Celtic sounds of long ago. In it you will experience the sound of the bagpipe, the penny whistle, extensive percussion, strings and brass instruments. We already have had tremendous sales of our first tape called Cosmo Worship 1, and we are presently working on our next taping of Cosmo Celtic. This past year we finished a successful series of concerts in the Sedona and Phoenix metropolitan area, as well as Tucson and Prescott areas.
