Program Development: Community Projects

NAU Campus Student's Community Projects: (DISTANCE STUDENTS SEE BELOW)

1) Flagstaff Family Fun Run & Senor Games Race, Students will staff the Flagstaff Family Fun Run/Senior Games Race, Saturday, September 12th at Buffalo Park from 7:30 AM until about 12 noon.

2) Halloween Harvest: Students will help organize, set-up and staff the Halloween Harvest on Saturday, October 31 at Thorpe Park & Heritage Square from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This is basically a Halloween carnival with carnival type games and activities. Additional details and collaboration with the City will come closer to the event.

3) PLAY Program: Students will conduct a minimum of three hours of activity programming with the Coconino County Health Department Heartbeat Physical Activity Program to satisfy this assignment. Each student will be assigned a specific Flagstaff Elementary school and teacher which you will conduct your recreational programs during the semester.

Distance Student's Project: Distance students (ONLY) will complete the following. Contact a local community group or organization (city parks and recreation department, public or private schools, daycare centers, YMCA/YWCA, Boys & Girls Club, Nursing Home, Boys & Girl Scouts etc.). Arrange to assist the organization in developing, planning and implementing ONE recreation/leisure program. All programs must be approved by the class instructor. A complete written report must submitted to the Instructor within seven days after your program or activity. All program factors listed below must be addressed in your report, even if you were not responsible for them. The selected program and report must demonstrate your understanding and attention to the following program factors:

bulletName of program
bulletProgram development - How was the program developed? - What need(s) does it meet?
bulletProgram leadership - What type of leadership was used? Why?
bulletProgram format - What was the program format/sequence?
bulletProgram promotion - Specifically, how was the program publicized/advertised? Include a sample flyer or other promotional material.
bulletProgram budget - Provide a line item program budget (Sample Budget) for this activity.
bulletProgram delivery -

    a. How many staff & volunteers were needed for the program?
    b. How was registration handled?
    c. How long did the program last?

bulletProgram evaluation - What type of evaluation tool was used for this program? Include a copy of any activity evaluation form used.

Be sure to include the name of the agency or organization; name of agency contact person; and their phone number or e-mail; date, time and location of program.
