I would like to welcome you to PRM 308 Practicum in Parks & Recreation Management. This course is designed to give you pre-professional hands-on experience with a park, recreation, or leisure service agency. As with any form of education, what you get out of this course depends on what you put into it. I hope you will take this opportunity to try out an area of the profession you may wish to work in after you graduate, or to gain experience in a new area of the parks and recreation field. The position may be volunteer or paid.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I contact all students by e-mail. I use the NAU DANA account for your email. If you have not received any email from me, it is because you have not checked your DANA email account. I will be happy to use any email address you provide to me for this class.

Each student is required to complete 240 contact hours at a recreation or leisure service agency. Preferably your hours will be 40 hours/week for six weeks, but there is some flexibility in working fewer hours for a longer period of time. The minimum is 20 hour/week for 12 weeks. Student must get the approval of the course facilitator prior to starting any Practicum hours. Please set up your Practicum before registering for this course. If you need assistance in setting up your Practicum please contact Dr. Hammersley.

If you have any questions or need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. You may track your assignments and  grades in the Student's Progress and Grade Reports.

It does not matter which summer session you are in, WHEN YOU START YOUR SUMMER JOB YOU START YOUR PRACTICUM. Sooner started, sooner done.
